چکیده

The loss caused by the so-called minor diseases is not usually considered of sufficient importance to warrant the adoption of control measures such as those used in combating major diseases; nevertheless it has frequently been asserted that if the total loss due to the activities of all minor diseases could be estimated it would probably amount to more than is imagined. Further, a disease which is of little or no consequence on one variety might become of greater importance on another of greater susceptibility, even to the extent of becoming a limiting factor in crop production.

Further Eyaluation Oif Fungicides for Control of Pineapple Disease of Sugarcane

In a series of screening trials a number of new, non-mercurial fungicides have shown promising results in controlling pineapple disease of sugarcane (Ceratocystis paradoxa). Several of the fungicides tested are as effective as Aretan and Benlate and are now registered for use in sugarcane. Growers now have a choice of effective non-mercurial fungicides for sett dip treatment. Poor germination o...

RNA Interference of Endochitinases in the Sugarcane Endophyte Trichoderma virens 223 Reduces Its Fitness as a Biocontrol Agent of Pineapple Disease

The sugarcane root endophyte Trichoderma virens 223 holds enormous potential as a sustainable alternative to chemical pesticides in the control of sugarcane diseases. Its efficacy as a biocontrol agent is thought to be associated with its production of chitinase enzymes, including N-acetyl-ß-D-glucosaminidases, chitobiosidases and endochitinases. We used targeted gene deletion and RNA-dependent...

Screening of Trichoderma Isolates as a Biological Control Agent against Ceratocystis paradoxa Causing Pineapple Disease of Sugarcane

In this study, dual culture, poison agar, and direct methods were used to assess the ability of Trichoderma virens IMI-392430, T. pseudokoningii IMI-392431, T. harzianum IMI-392432, T. harzianum IMI-392433, and T. harzianum IMI-392434 to control Ceratocystis paradoxa, which causes the pineapple disease of sugarcane. The highest percentage inhibition of radial growth (PIRG) values were observed ...

Synergism of Saccharum officinarum and Ananas comosus extract additives on the quality of electroplated zinc on mild steel

Synergism of Saccharum officinarum (sugarcane) and Ananas comosus (pineapple) extract additives on the quality of electroplated zinc on mild steel in acid chloride solution was investigated experimentally at ambient temperature (*28 C). The experiments were performed at different plating times (15 and 18 min), additive concentrations (2, 2.5, 3 ml/50 ml of acid chloride solution), pH 5, tempera...
